About idrive Terminal Software

The idrive Terminal software allows for access to the local idrive base station from a remote computer. This provides the functionality of multiple users accessing the idrive system simultaneously from different locations.

Functionality of idrive Terminal

The functionality and operation of idrive Terminal is nearly identical to the Idrive 2.0 Control Center and as a result they share the same manual. Control Center 2.0 User’s Guide

The following functionality is not available in Idrive Terminal. These operations must be performed on directly on the idrive Base Station.

  • Import of Events
  • Manual Deletion of events
  • Automatic deletion of events
  • Play & Review->D4 DVR Videos (these files are too large)

Base Station (Server) Configuration Requirements for idrive Terminal

1. The base station must have a fixed IP address in the client network (no DHCP).

2. The SQL Server needs to be configured to allow TCP connections

In windows 8 the start menu item is missing.

(Double click C:\Windows\SysWOW64\SQLServerManager10.mmc for SQL 2008)

(Double click C:\Windows\SysWOW64\SQLServerManager11.mmc for SQL 2012)

NOTE: this page and settings applies also to 32Bit SQL 2014 needed with some installations of windows 10 (when the OS forces you to upgrade)

  • Start> Microsoft Sql Server 2008 R2->Configuration Tools>SQL Server Configuration Manager
  • Expand SQL Server Network Configuration,
  • click on Protocols for SQLEXPRESS,
  • Right click on TCP/IP and choose Properties.
  • In the “Protocol tab” Set "Enabled=Yes"
  • In the “IP Addresses tab” set the values for IPAll, set "TCP Dynamic Ports" to Blank, set the “TCP Port” value to 1433
  • Click OK,
  • restart “SQL Server(SQLEXPRESS)” Control Panel>Administrative Tools> Services

3. If the Base Station has a Windows firewall, you must add the port 1433 in exception list of Windows Firewall

http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/1929/configure-windows-firewall-to-work-with-sql-server/

Please note that we are not using SQL Server Browser Service.

NOTE: it might be necessary to upgrade from 2008 to 2012

- Also Microsoft may have moved your version of SQL Configuration Manager to the MMC.EXE application as a Snap In - see below if moved

https://www.mytecbits.com/microsoft/sql-server/where-is-sql-server-configuration-manager#:~:text=SQL%20Server%20Configuration%20Manager%20is%20now%20snapped%20in,snap-in%2C%20go%20to%20the%20menu%20File%20%3E%3E%20Save.

Steps To Open SQL Server Configuration Manager

  1. Open Microsoft Management Console (mmc) by typing in “mmc.exe” in start menu. The management console will be launched.
  2. In management console, go to File menu >> Add/Remove Snap-in….
  3. In the Add or Remove Snap-ins popup window, under Available snap-ins, look for SQL Server Configuration manager, select it and press Add> button to add the snap-in to the Console Root. Finally press the OK button.
  4. SQL Server Configuration Manager is now snapped in to the left panel of the MMC. You can now expand the node and see the various SQL Server services and tools for configuration.
  5. To save the selected management console snap-in, go to the menu File >> Save.
  6. In the Save As dialog, Select the folder (may be the desktop..) you want to save the .mmc file and give a name to the file. Finally press Save button.
  7. Next time when you want to open the configuration manager, you can just double-click the saved .mmc file to open the MMC console along with the snapped in SQL Server Configuration Manager.

Client Local Area Network Configuration to support idrive terminal

1. The idrive base station must have a static IP address assigned.

2. All network equipment between the idrive Base Station and the client(s) running idrive Terminal Software must have the following ports open in both directions:

  • port 5560 (idrive Terminal Service protocol - used for transport of GPS and event files to the idrive terminal)
  • port 1433 (used for communication with the SQL Server database)
  • port 4660 (idrive Wi-Fi Service protocol - used for displaying the transfer activities in real time)
  • port 3306 (used for communication with the Global Center database: when the license key is activated / deactivated; used also for validating the email address on the server when a user is added / modified)

3. Idrive supports idrive terminal only on local networks. Wide area network access may be possible however idrive does not supply support for this method of connecting

System Requirements for idrive Terminal Software

- OS: Windows Vista / Windows 7

- At least 1GB RAM, HDD Free Space: 100 MB + N MB (depending of the cache size settings)

Idrive Terminal Installation and Setup

Installation

  • Download the idrive terminal software.
  • Launch the installation with setup.exee
  • When setup finishes click Close
  • The first time you open idrive Terminal you will be prompted for the Validation code.
  • Enter the supplied Validation code when prompted.

(Each terminal has a unique software key generated from Admin Center. At this moment, the key generation is missing from AC, so please use the following key:

75277-2B324-43353-54747-34D3D)

You can generate license keys for Terminals in AC under client page > Location > Add Software and view the licenses list/details under “Additional Software“ panel. Under “details” will be available some info (OS, processor, memory, last login date ) about the computer where the Terminal is running. This is available for Mirror Center also.

Initial Setup

  • Enter the base station IP Address
  • Enter the name you want the base station to have (in case there are more than one)
  • Add additional base stations is applicable
  • At the Log In screen a link at the bottom of the window will let you select between the Base Stations in case there are more than one)
  • Log onto the base station
  • Set the “Limit Cache” value in Settings>Admin Settings>Terminal Settings

Idrive Terminal usage monitoring/control

This key will be saved in Global Center together with 2 fields: max number of usages / current number of usages. Where will this be?

Every time when a new terminal is installed, the current number is increased until the max number. Of course, there will be an option for changing the max number. Let us know where.

We have not implemented this mechanism. Each terminal has a unique license key.

- Every time when a client login to a base station, the following information (login date, OS version, RAM and processor info) are stored in the local CC database.

idrive Terminal patches

  • idrive terminal updates are automated
  • When a new patch is released, the Sync Service downloads the patch to the idrive base station.
  • When a client logins onto the base station using idrive terminal they will receive a notification that a new version is available
  • If the client decides to install the new version (in some cases, we may force the client to install the patch), the setup files are copied from the base station to the terminal, the application is closed and the installer is started.
  • The installer automatically uninstalls the previous version and installs the new one
  • After installation, the terminal path is: C:\Program Files\idrive\Terminal. At the first run, you should enter the IP of base station. After that, you will be able to login in the system. What does this mean?

We are talking about the base station config windows where the IP address and the base station name must be entered. These values (together with the license key) are stored in a small MS Access database (terminal.idr) located in C:\Program Files\idrive\Terminal folder. Beside these fields, the terminal.idr database contains also the encrypted value of the motherboard manufacturing number from the terminal computer. When the idrive Terminal is launched, the software checks the license key in the idr database and it also comparing the motherboard serial number from the computer with the decrypted values stored in the database. If these values are not identical, the activation form is displayed. In this way, the idr database cannot be moved from a terminal to another.

Licensing etc

Use of the Idrive Terminal Software requires the Standard Idrive Base Station be upgraded to idrive Server Version. Activation of the server functions requires annual maintenance fees.

The base server package comes with 5 Client Access Licenses (CALs).

Additional CALs may be purchased. Please contact sales@idrive.pro for more information.
