About the Idrive Mobile Base Station

The Idrive Mobile Base Station may be useful for remote locations which cannot support a permanent infrastructure for a Standard Idrive Base Station (Building, Power, Internet connection). The Mobile Base Station has all of the functionality of the standard Idrive Base Station and is composed of a Laptop computer running the Idrive Control Center application and is equipped with a portable WiFi access point to facilitate downloading of events from the X1 devices.

The Mobile Base station is the central point of control for the Idrive devices assigned to the "mobile location". It controls the configuration and management of the idrive devices and facilitates the download and localized storage of events from Idrive devices as well as the capability to review and grade events. When you return to your home to a location the laptop needs to connect to the internet so it can communicate with the Idrive Global Center to provide web access to you fleet’s information.

The Idrive System Architecture

The architecture of the Idrive system requires two separate network connections. One connection is used for access to the internet and the second is used for downloading of events from the Idrive X1 devices. In the Standard Base Station (Desktop) system there are two wired network connections built into the mainboard of the computer to facilitate this configuration. This is not possible with a laptop so to help avoid confusion in this document we will call the connections "Internet Connection" and "X1 Camera Connection".

X1 Camera Connection
The Mobile Base Station communicates with the Idrive X1 devices in your vehicles via an 802.11G wireless network. This connection is made up by plugging the supplied Mobile WiFi access point into the Wired Cat5 connection on the laptop. This is where you would normally plug in the network cable. The Camera Connection and WiFi access point settings are configured for use with the Idrive system and should not be changed.
Internet Connection
The internet connection is used to communicate with the idrive Global Center as well as to allow for system updates and remote support. This connection will use the built in WiFi card in the laptop. The settings

Setup of the idrive Base Station Computer

As with any computer ensure that you choose a setup location that provides good ergonomic conditions for the user.

Computer setup:

1) Connect the keyboard, mouse and monitor to the computer and plug the computer into an uninterruptable power supply (UPS).

2) Connect the internet network connection (Labeled on the back of the system) to your internet connection.

3) Power on and log onto the system using the account idriveadm with a password of 111111 .

4) Verify that you have internet connectivity by launching internet explorer.

5) After the Base Station is connected to the internet the Control Center will download from the idrive Global Center the information for the idrive devices which have been assigned to your location.

Setup the Ubiquity Bullet HP2 Wireless Device

The Ubiquity Bullet is a powerful CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) configured as a onmidirectional access point. It screws directly onto the base of the supplied external antenna. It should be mounted in a suitable location typically no more than 12 feet off of the ground and at least a foot away from the wall. If covering an outdoor lot the device should be mounted outdoors. If you have an indoor garage area to cover mount the device indoors.

The Ubiquity Bullet receives its power over the shielded network cable which comes with your idrive Base Station. This power is provided by the POE (Power Over Ethernet) injector.

The Ubiquity Bullet will be delivered to you preconfigured to work with your idrive system.

Wireless Device connection:

1) Attach the Ubiquity Bullet to the antenna prior to applying power to the device. Wrap the coupling with the supplied tape to waterproof the connection.

2) Mount the Ubiquity Bullet vertically and at a height 12 - 15 feet (typical). Chose a location which has a good view of the area to be covered. The antenna should be able to look over any vehicles that may block those that are parked behind it. (Additional or alternate equipment may be required depending on your location)

3) Only attach mounting hardware to the metal base of the antenna.

4) Connect the idrive wireless network connection on the back of the base station (Labeled on the back of the system) to the LAN port on the POE injector. A longer, regular Cat 5e cable may be used if necessary for this connection.

5) Connect the POE injector POE port to the Ubiquity Bullet’s Cat5 port using only the ”FTP” (Foil Wrapped Twisted Pair) style Cat5e cable supplied. Do not use any other type of Cat5 cable. Make sure the supplied seal is installed to waterproof the connection.

6) Connect the POE power plug into an outlet.

7) On the idrive Base Station if asked to select the Network Type select “Public”
